I thought that since today is Global  International Recycling Day, it would be a great opportunity to talk about what can be recycled in the State of Michigan.  Please note that items that will be accepted is regulated locally, so you will have to check with your city, village, township, and or county.

ITEMS THAT ARE USUALLY ACCEPTED FOR RECYCLING

  • Cleaned, empty, plastic containers.  Check the symbol and number on the bottom. #’s 1-7 are usually accepted.
  • Metal recycling, such as aluminum cans, foil, and empty metal beverage containers.
  • Cardboard
  • Paper
  • Glass (many areas do not accept glass, please verify)

It usually does not take that much more time to clean out these items and throw them in your recycling bin, instead of the trash.  If you are capable, please consider recycling in order to keep these items out of the landfill.

Of course, if you are unable to recycle for any reason, such as a disability, access, or items refused, we would be happy to provide you with a roll off dumpster rental for large quantities of trash.

I have included all of my resources for this information below with links to our local environmental and waste facilities here in Oakland County, Michigan.
